Once upon a time, Mike Jones was the hip hop prince of Houston. Those days are long gone, but Jones’ catalogue of Southern bangers is still surprisingly deep. One of his more celebrated cuts is “Flossin” ; Monday night, Fetty Wap came through with a remix of the song in honor of H-Town, Jones, and the late Big Moe.
Fetty uses “Flossin” to exhibit his versatility, alternately rapping
and crooning over the classic beat. If he hopes to curry favor with the hip hop fans who tend to look at him with disdain, he ought to remix these sorts of songs more often.
