Dr. Dre is reportedly dipping his toes into TV, with a starring role in an upcoming Apple series.
In its constant effort to stay inventive and fresh, Apple has announced their first-ever original series, which will feature one of their very own, Dr. Dre.
Hollywood Reporter reports on the new business move today. The scripted series is apparently “top secret,” but according to various sources, Dre is not only starring in the series but an executive producer. It’s rumored to be titled “Vital Signs.” It’s very likely, according to THR, that the series will be distributed via Apple Music, however it’s unclear if it’ll be available on other platforms (such as iTunes) or traditional TV distributors.
Of the inside sources who have seen the script, the show is reportedly “billed as semi-autobiographical, with each episode focusing on a different emotion and how Dre’s character deals with it. Sources say that Sam Rockwell and Mo McCrae (‘Murder in the First’) are among the additional cast.” The show is set to consist of thirty minutes episodes, and will be a very dark (“no shortage of violence and S3x”) drama.
OG music video director Paul Hunter (Biggie’s “Hypnotize,” Diddy’s “Around The World,” Eminem’s “The Way I Am” etc) will be helming the series, while Dre has reportedly enlisted “Empire” co-executive producer/writer Robert Munic to write all six episodes, as well as executive produce.
A rep for Dre and Apple have declined to comment on the reported series yet, so we’ll keep you posted.
